The Air Quality Advocate will be an employee of the Carlisle Area Health & Wellness Foundation (CAHWF) who will be directly supervised by a representative of the Clean Air Board (CAB).

 

Hours/Week: 12

Position Title: Air Quality Advocate

Salary: $15,000 (at 12 hours/week for 48 weeks=$ 26.04/hour)

Benefits: Included, provided by CAHWF

Location: CAB Office Space at Second Presbyterian Church. May also work from home when appropriate (as determined by direct supervisor).

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The major job responsibilities of the Clean Air Board (CAB) Air Quality Advocate are to provide management support to the CAB Board related to the activities outlined below.

 

1. Work with school districts on emissions.

 

a. Support decreasing school bus emissions by policy and encourage retrofitting.

b. Schedule and organize meetings with school district administrators, transportation officials, the CAIU transportation directors association, and parent groups.

c. Develop presentations and coordinate CAB Board Member schedules for presentations at all meetings.

d. Schedule School Board presentations as determined by the CAB Board.

e. Research and identify possible funding for school bus retrofitting.

 

2. Work toward creating a stakeholders group.

 

a. Work with the CAB Board and CAHWF to develop a list of potential stakeholders in the region. Provide expertise in formulating plan of action.

b. Contact potential stakeholders and schedule meetings with these stakeholders. Coordinate CAB Board Members schedules for meeting attendance when deemed appropriate by the CAB Board.

c. Work toward organizing and coordinating meetings of the stakeholders group. These meetings might be held two or three times per year (if funding permits) and should include a significant agenda. Develop agendas in conjunction with the CAB Board. Develop and distribute minutes of meetings.

 

3. Develop grants.

 

a. Research possible grants for CAB.

b. Provide a leadership role in writing grant applications in conjunction with CAB Board Members and other appropriate individuals.

 

SECONDARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

1. Work with legislative and government officials to support anti-idling regulations and/or legislation.

a. Coordinate schedules of CAB Board Members to meet with and/or communicate with legislative staffs and the staffs of DEP, PENNDOT or other relevant government bodies.

b. Develop and organize distribution of necessary materials.


2. Collaborate with other regional clean air groups.

a. Coordinate communication with clean air advocacy groups such as the Clean Air Council ( Eastern PA), the Allegheny County Partnership to Reduce Diesel Pollution, a coalition led in part by the Group Against Smog and Pollution (GASP), and other regional groups.

b. Contact regional groups and initiate a collaborative relationship with these groups.

c. Coordinate the sharing and distribution of materials and information between these groups and CAB.


3. General Activities.

a. Attend CAB Board and/or Community meetings upon request.


QUALIFICATIONS

 

1. 10 years experience with environmental and/or related educational institutions and/or projects required.

 

2. BA/BS degree or higher, preferably in environmental sciences or a related area.


3. Can work with little supervision and possesses high level of versatility and adaptability.


4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of people.


5. Desire to work with dedicated volunteers to improve the community.


6. Above average computer skills are required.


7. Grant writing and nonprofit experience are a plus.
