Letters to Governor Rendell from
Broad Street Elementary School Third Graders

"Dear Governor...:"

"Pretty please, I really want clean air to breathe. I bet you do too..." - Gina

"This letter is about air. Small particles (that are so tiny you can't see them) come out of the fuel. If a lot gets into someone's lungs, they could have trouble breathing. Please pass a law..." - Jonathan

"I'd really love it if you would help us to stay healthy. Please, please, please!" - Jessica

"We learned in Social Studies that air is one of our main natural resources. We must protect it." - Bronte

"May you please tell people to not put bad stuff in the air and make people get asthma (like kids especially). You should make that a law because it is making a lot of people sick." –Hannah

"I know that the air is dirty and my Nan has asthma. I don't want the air to be bad for her. Can you stop the pollution please?" - Savannah

Important Message from CAB,
Addressed to the Community of Truck Drivers

November 2006

We, the members of CAB, have recently received several letters that have expressed important concerns regarding the nature of the clean air programs currently being pursued by CAB. We highly value your opinions and concerns, and as such we hope to help clarify several misunderstandings with the following response:

One of the key concerns that your letters have expressed is that CAB is pursuing an end to truck drivers' right to idle at any and all times. We understand how this would affect your ability to work and live comfortably, and for that reason CAB is not calling for an immediate stop to all idling. Rather, we are focusing our efforts on finding a way to reduce idling without hurting the ability of all drivers to be comfortable. We support an anti-idling program, not an end to all idling. Such a program endeavors to find alternatives to idling and specific restrictions that would respect the rights of drivers to maintain optimal working conditions at all times.
